Media Education Curriculum & Training Program

MDR’s Media Education Curriculum & Training Program is designed to support classroom teachers and youth site leaders in integrating comprehensive media literacy, social-emotional programing, and community engagement in their current programs. Curriculum is Common Core Aligned and supports teens in decreasing their rate of emulating destructive behaviors while increasing their sense of personal value and empathy for others.

MDR’s curriculum follows a three-pillar approach; (1) Media Literacy, (2) Media Production, and (3) Media Justice Advocacy. It includes 9 thematic units, each unit packed with several robust lessons, additional resources, and varied media. Each lesson, and unit, asks students essential questions to consider as they move through the program towards critical thinkers, conscious consumers, producers, and advocates of humanity-driven art in media. In order to keep lessons impactful, relevant, and productive, each is designed to help students’ address the present needs of their community, as well as provide an authentic classroom experience for each participant.

MDR trains educators and youth development staff in curriculum implementation. MDR provides technical support and college collaboration support for curriculum partners.
